INTRODUCTION

Mrs. Anu Oberoi is working as a special educator is a field where every trainer has to deal with the case-specific requirements of every child. There is a need to get involved in every aspect such as the Social, cognitive, speech, and behavioural requirements of children.

Why did you choose to work with students with disabilities? And what do you enjoy most about teaching them?

Answer:

I have chosen to be a special educator since it is a challenging field involving social responsibility. While working with this section of society I have experienced various encouraging prospects and getting involved with every child gives me immense pleasure to bring them up in their day-to-day needs.

Could you help us understand how one could educate special needs children with sex education?

Answer:

Since sex education also deals with emotions, hence it is required to make these children with special needs understand the importance of good or bad touch. First of all, mental compatibility with children is required. Further by using a dummy (doll), the concept is clarified to the children regularly. However, this activity is undertaken, keeping in view the physical and mental age of the child.

What’s the biggest challenge/reward in working with students who require special education?

Answer:

While working with children with special needs the biggest challenge is to understand their special needs and act accordingly since every child is a unique case to understand. The biggest reward for a special trainer is the satisfaction that you get when you find results flourishing in front of your eyes. It is just like paying back to society by helping these children to join the mainstream.

What do you hope to contribute to the special education field?

Answer:

In my opinion, if we are able to raise children with special needs to match up with basic survival requirements where society can accept them in whatever state they are in, it will be the biggest contribution.

What message do you have for our readers, about being an educator of special children, in an era of a constant threat of sexual abuse?

Answer:

I could only say that these children might be lagging in some of the areas but they have their strength in various other fields. There is a need for the so-called normal people to open up their thoughts and treat these children with special needs in an appropriate manner and give them space to flourish as per their capabilities.
